In addition to the taxonomies by keyword and category, the Focus is a method of displaying groups of posts. This selection of one or more “In Focus” groups works in each of the settings.

  1. AdminBar – New – In Focus
  2. Enter title
  3. Select posts – Save
  4. Select group(s) in the post-listing block In Focus

As many posts are displayed next to each other as will fit in the window. All posts are displayed. If you use a post image even once, the navigation must make room for it, which is not practical for posts without an image. Therefore, if you use this block, it is better to always use a post image consistently. Or never.

8 posts are displayed. Combine this with a button to the post archive.

This post listing only shows the German entries because it has been restricted to the “General” category. All German posts are assigned to this category.

Use Focus Posts if you have many posts but only want to display certain ones. You can create focus groups and add posts to these groups. As soon as you select “Use in Focus Posts”, you will see these focus groups.

You must click on one of these groups, then only the posts that belong to the group will be displayed.

You can manage the focus groups in Dashboard > Posts > In Focus > Add New in Focus and give the group a name. You will then see all available posts in the left-hand column and click to add posts to the focus group.

A practical feature here is that you can determine the order yourself. Otherwise posts are always sorted from new to old.

The display differs slightly (featured images are only displayed in the frontend).

If you use posts and translations with the Post Listing, you must set categories in each language variant. For example, “General” in German and “General” in English. If you do not do this and leave it set to “All”, then you will see every post in EVERY language in both spokespersons, i.e. virtually doubled!

How to set the categories:

  1. Dashboard > Posts > Categories > Create general category
  2. Posts > check all at the top of the title > multiple actions on Edit > Apply
  3. Now all posts are editable. Check the General category and save
  4. Add the category in the post listing
